Kolbe House Distribution to the Homeless
On Sunday, March 30, the Kolbe House was blessed with the first weekend of a two-weekend clothing drive at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bellville. Lana, seen with Deacon Denny, was the volunteer from the parish who worked with us (Deacon Denny, Kevin and Jeff).

Kolbe House ran its second “Clean the Closet” weekend at St. Michael’s on Sage Rd. The weather was beautiful, the turnout was generous, and the company was great! (Tommy, DJ, Crystal, Linda, Oscar and Jeff)

Clean Your Closet
The Kolbe House team collected more than 60 bins full of clothing for the homeless from St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in their Clean the Closet drive the weekends of November 16-17 and 23-24, 2024
On November 2, 2024, Deacon Dennis Hayes brought together the Kolbe House team and the St. Michael the Archangel Confirmation class in a full day of “hands on” faith, beginning with a food and clothing distribution to the homeless, followed by ministry to the aging, and finishing with testimony and dialogue with the Kolbe House residents.

“Clean the Closet”
A few years ago, the men of the Kolbe House expressed their desire to do more, and through prayer, discussion and discernment, it was decided that their hearts were being led to help the homeless.
Since then, numerous parishes and individual volunteers have felt the call to support this “ministry within a ministry.” The homeless of downtown Houston have received thousands upon thousands of pounds of food, clothing and hygiene, and have, in their turn, given us at Kolbe House an opportunity to meet Jesus in the poor.
Support…
The need is so great that, even with two trailers stuffed full of food and clothing, we always return from the distribution empty.
If you feel so moved to contribute, below are some of the things most needed by the homeless.
Food: Packaged food of all kinds. Most of the homeless do not have any way to cook their food, so it should be pre-cooked, and if in a can, the can should be “pop top.”
Clothing: Most of those we serve are grown men, so that is where the greatest clothing need is. But there are women among the homeless, too, so we gladly take women’s clothing. We rarely see children on the streets of downtown Houston, so children’s clothing should be directed to a different charity. During fall and winter, warm clothes, jackets and blankets are very much needed. Shoes are needed year round. We give out socks that are new, not used, due to health considerations.
Hygiene: Soap, deodorant, toothpaste, tooth brushes, shampoo, hand sanitizer, combs, brushes, razors, wash cloths, feminine hygiene products, adult diapers. Individual items are accepted, but bulk donations of these items are greatly needed.
Other: Two-man tents
